Futurist Reports

The VSP Global Innovation Center has partnered with technology intelligence platform CB Insights to produce its Futurist Report series, a collection of data-driven digital media offering forward-looking analyses of the trends and businesses shaping the future of healthcare, vision care, eyewear, and more.

Eye on the Metaverse

In the latest installment, the GIC explores the metaverse, providing a framework for understanding the metaverse and its potential impact on the vision care journey.

The report identifies the four stages of the vision care journey most likely to intersect with the metaverse, along with several key takeaways in each:

  1. Discovery: Healthcare providers can improve brand awareness and visibility through the metaverse with tactics including in-experience advertisements, branding in virtual worlds, and participation in virtual benefit fairs.
  2. Engagement: The vision care sector can use the metaverse to transform worker and patient experiences through virtual onboarding, VR training, and immersive patient education.
  3. Care: The report details myriad innovations in both remote and in-person care transformed by the metaverse. Currently, vision care vendors using AR/VR, such as heru, Luminopia, and VROR, are developing engaging tests to screen for disease, fun games that help train eyes, and assistive technology to help people with impaired vision navigate the real world.
  4. Post-exam: The metaverse can transform remote fitting and shopping for eyewear with technologies like AI-powered fitting and virtual fashion, which are growing in use across the vision care landscape.
